Patient Safety and Health Care Education and Consulting

Course Curriculum:

Every hospital that has an emergency department and accepts Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement must follow the federal law and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) interpretive guidelines on Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). This includes critical access hospitals.

During PART II of our program, our speaker will discuss the recent changes by the Office of Inspector General (OIG) which will impact on-call physicians, as well as recent OIG investigations. Sue will focus on EMTALA issues including payment issues, patient financial questions, the required policies and procedures, hospital recommendations, information regarding a dedicated emergency department and using a central log. She will also discuss EMTALA special responsibilities and EMTALA outpatients, inpatients and observation.

If you are registering for an out-of-state hospital association, please contact Bess Zappa, or 770-249-4542.
