1. Freedom of Expression On and Off Duty: Employer and Employee Rights

Participants will explore the effects of potentially controversial political and social messaging employees may engage in, whether interacting at work or after hours via social media. What limits can be placed on such employee communication? Can employees be held accountable for off-duty conduct? What restrictions can be placed on employees who display political and social messages on their masks, shirts, or other articles of clothing?
2. Protected Speech in Private, Not-For-Profit, For-Profit, and Public Hospitals

This discussion will address how employees’ First Amendment rights differ among these sectors, as well as how these differences affect employers’ rights to discipline and/or terminate employees for their speech in the workplace.
