Course Curriculum

As healthcare systems continue to face staffing shortages, provider burnout, and rising costs, virtual nursing has emerged as a promising innovation in modern healthcare. This session explores the evolution of hybrid workforce models that strategically combine traditional bedside care with virtual nursing capabilities to maximize both human connection and technological efficiency.

Attendees will discover how virtual nursing models address challenges such as nurse retention, workload management, and care quality. The webinar will examine six different approaches:

• Hub-and-Spoke Model: Virtual nursing hubs support multiple units simultaneously.

• ADT (Admission, Discharge, and Transfer) Model: Optimizing patient flow processes.

• Team Model: A virtual nurse works with 1-3 bedside nurse colleagues as a member of the unit-based team.

• Virtual Nurse Specialist Model: Deploying specialized nursing resources virtually.

• Follow-the-Sun Staffing Model: Using time zone differences to ease overnight staffing burdens.

• Cross-Unit Virtual Team Support Model: Providing flexible remote support during high-demand periods.

These innovative models help preserve invaluable clinical expertise and retain experienced senior nurses who might otherwise leave the profession. Practical insights on customizing hybrid staffing approaches based on facility needs will be shared so that facilities learn how to enhance existing workflows.
